About the Title - The Song of the Sleeping Grass - (What Is Sleeping Grass?)

The Song of the Sleeping Grass tells the story of Becky Medina, a woman who was dumped by her soldier husband, and replaced with a new wife.  It's sad.  It sucks.  It is kind of a true story, too.  

But the title - where did that come from?  I'll tell you.  Becky (the book's protagonist) is a music lover.  Every hard time that she has had in her life, she can identify with a song.  When she meets the person who will help her heal her wounds, she mentions the music that helped her get through the bad times.  

But what is the "Sleeping Grass" part about?  Well, Becky is Puerto Rican, and having been to the island on vacation, she'd seen the Morivivi plant: 

Like the plant, when stricken, Becky closes up tight to protect herself.  But not for long - as soon as time and sunlight allow, she spreads herself open again to live - again.

Thank God for Amazon.  The KDP program (I know that the "P" stands for program in KDP) resulted in some good numbers of downloads for my books.  Also, it was exciting to see what books were more popular than others.

In the beginning, Nice Shootin', Tex! (my contemporary western/women's fiction/romance title) was the most popular of all.  But in America, folks downloaded more copies of The Song of the Sleeping Grass than anything else.

This two day promotion was a revelation to me.  I will be using the KDP program some more.  Also, I am going to have to heed the demands of the overseas crowds - I will have to write another western!  I might even have an idea on what to write.

The most popular download here in the states is The Song of the Sleeping Grass.  I am happy for that, as it is a great story that sheds light on a small percentage of the population that are forgotten about: military divorcees.  In The Song of the Sleeping Grass, I wanted to cradle Becky Medina in the hardest time of her life.  I also wanted my readers to accompany her into her happily ever after.  She deserves it, for sure.

Becky Campbell, Or Someone Like Her, Shops Here

Oh, the military commissary.  Oh, the military life!  My first book was called The Song of the Sleeping Grass, which was about a dutiful and loving military wife who was dumped by her husband for a female soldier.  It has happened.  I've seen it happen.  It is tragic for a military wife, I think.  Not only does she have her love life torn away from her, her home is taken away (if she lives in military housing), her shopping places have to change (if she shops on base), her friends are gone, and sometimes even her state is taken from her. 

That is what happened to Becky Campbell in Song.  Her ending is far different from her beginning, fortunately, but still, her pain bears witness as it is a pain that has been shared by many former military wives - just like the one who inspired the story. 

In any case, here are scenes from a commissary shopping trip:

Me waiting in line to pay.  The roast chicken in my basket ($6.99) is the best ever.  The eggs are cheaper at Albertson's though.  The burger buns and yogurt are cheaper at the commissary.  And no, I am never tempted by the aisle offerings by the waiting line. 

Supermarket to the military, and retirees as well as some DOD civilians.  Great deals here.  I would hate it if the commissary went away.
