Wanting to Publish it, But Still Licking My Wounds

A few months ago, I pitched an Arthurian Women's Fiction/Romance novel to five separate literary agents.  I didn't hear back from one of them, and then other four said no.  

The hard ones were the rejections that had words such as "talented" and "intrigued," along with "not for me."  

Rejection always sucks.  It doesn't matter how many times you get turned down.  It is a good novel with a strong heroine, though.  I hope to get it published sometime.

On my computer sits other novels; other stories that are waiting to be told. The sequel to The End of Thunder and Lightning: Alanna's Fall sits in a writing folder, waiting to be published, too.  

Also sitting on my computer and about...75% completed is Jennifer Bauer.  The truth is that I don't know when I will publish that.  

Another untold and complete story is a romance/women's fiction story about a woman who falls in love with the bad guy for all the right reasons.  Does she stay with the guy?  Does he change his ways?  I might publish that one sometime.

The one that's driving me is a detective series of books that I will start writing.  In June.  I can't wait for that.  

I'll have to jump into the painful business that is pitching queries, and very soon.  I'll keep you all posted!

About the Title - The Song of the Sleeping Grass - (What Is Sleeping Grass?)

The Song of the Sleeping Grass tells the story of Becky Medina, a woman who was dumped by her soldier husband, and replaced with a new wife.  It's sad.  It sucks.  It is kind of a true story, too.  

But the title - where did that come from?  I'll tell you.  Becky (the book's protagonist) is a music lover.  Every hard time that she has had in her life, she can identify with a song.  When she meets the person who will help her heal her wounds, she mentions the music that helped her get through the bad times.  

But what is the "Sleeping Grass" part about?  Well, Becky is Puerto Rican, and having been to the island on vacation, she'd seen the Morivivi plant: 

Like the plant, when stricken, Becky closes up tight to protect herself.  But not for long - as soon as time and sunlight allow, she spreads herself open again to live - again.

The most popular download here in the states is The Song of the Sleeping Grass.  I am happy for that, as it is a great story that sheds light on a small percentage of the population that are forgotten about: military divorcees.  In The Song of the Sleeping Grass, I wanted to cradle Becky Medina in the hardest time of her life.  I also wanted my readers to accompany her into her happily ever after.  She deserves it, for sure.

Scenes From a Hike

So, I have this new tradition (with a friend of mine and fellow homeschooling parent) of taking a nice, vigorous walk every Wednesday morning.  It is a lot of fun.  You'll probably recognize the location from pictures in a previous blog post or two, but here are some more anyway:

I am not a pet person.  Not at all.  Nope.  I would rather have another human baby than have a pet.  That being said, look at this dog's pretty, fluffy, curly white HAIR!!!  Look at her perfect, pink tongue!!  Sigh.  Too much cuteness!

Oh, and 7/11.  I swear that one day I will write about all of the virtues of 7/11.  God Bless America.

Mea Culpa

I'll first post a picture of me being ashamed (which is why my eyes are covered) before I get into all of this.  (This is how embarrassed I am). 

Now, the reason for my shame... Two weeks ago, I attended a very educational Writer's Conference here in my hometown of San Diego.  It gave me ideas, motivation, a direction and even a plan.  Part one of the plan is to edit every single book I have out there.  Dear Lord.  Sigh.  Ouch.  I had no idea that I'd left entire chapters out.  I had no idea that I repeated chapter numbers! 

No wonder why I've had a bit of bad luck when it comes to reviews.  Also, I had links to my old website on there, which is not helpful at all.  I edited those. 

Now, I hope that my existing products (The Wolves books, at least (so far)) are more serious looking, because I do take this writing/editing/marketing/all-consuming business very seriously.

Pictorial Accompaniment to I Left My Heart in Old Town - Part One

I had the wonderful privilege to publish a romantic short story called I Left My Heart in Old Town for the wonderful Military Spouse Magazine.  What is the story about?  It is about a Navy wife, who with her young son, travels to the San Diego of the 1850's - Old Town to be precise.  What does she find there?  You'll have to read I Left My Heart in Old Town - Part One to find out!

But in any case, I had the pleasure of driving down to Old Town to take pictures of it - (as it is today, obviously).  Hopefully this will get your curiosity of my story, and of Old Town, too, going:
